After this year’s presidential campaign and election, many of us have been left wondering what we can do to make a positive impact in the world and for the people around us. The timing of this couldn't be better because November is exactly the time when we take time to consider what we are grateful for and how we can share with others.
This week, millions of people will celebrate this Thanksgiving season with the American tradition of snagging the best deals for holiday gifts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday (after stuffing their face generously with turkey and mashed potatoes, of course).
While those days are the most commercially popular, there’s another special day that will encourage all of us to balance our holiday spending with holiday giving.
#GivingTuesday is recognized on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. More than just a day, #GivingTuesday is a movement that “connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.” #GivingTuesday was created in 2012 by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact and has since mobilized millions of people and reached up to 71 countries.
